I
fell in love with shooting photographs in high school in 1987 and have
never
strayed too far from my camera since. I consider photography another
fine art form, like music or poetry. A good photograph, like a good
poem, focuses in on a detail that suggests a deeper meaning or emotion.
I studied the fine arts in college while shooting for the newspaper and
yearbook and then taught English and humanities at the collegiate level
in Washington State and Arizona. Later, I lived in Spain for several
years where I focused on architectural photography and
photojournalism-style street photography.
After those experiences, I decided to follow my passion by starting my
own wedding photography business in Spokane.
I bring my diversity of interests to my wedding photography. I look at
the setting in architectural terms; I think of the wedding day as a
story; I think of squeezing the shutter as writing a poem. I aim to
capture all the essential moments of the wedding that the bride and
groom can relive whenever they look at their photographs.
Photography isn't only my vocation; it is also my avocation, my
passion. I find taking pictures to be very life-affirming.
I have a
blog
where I post my personal work. If you are interesting in
seeing
the kinds of things I'm shooting on my own, or reading my comments
about photography, weddings and this and that, then feel to drop
by.
I am proud to be the first photographer in Spokane to be accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association.
I live in Spokane with my wife of 17 years, Bonnie, and my 5 year old son Marcus.
